Hide Elements on Mobile
Hide elements such as images on mobile that would take up too much space.
Hide Elements on Mobile is a Responsive setting in OptiMonk's campaign editor that lets you selectively conceal individual campaign elements from mobile viewers — or conversely, hide them from desktop viewers — without removing them from the campaign entirely. It is found under the Advanced section of each element's settings panel, and it works on a per-element basis: a large decorative image can be hidden on mobile where it would dominate the limited screen space, while remaining fully visible on desktop. A desktop-specific text block can be hidden on mobile where a shorter version already handles the message. Elements hidden via this setting are not deleted — they remain in the campaign and are accessible through the Layers panel, where their visibility status is clearly indicated. This gives you precise, element-level control over the mobile experience without requiring a separate mobile campaign, and without the hidden elements interfering with the layout or content flow of the other device view.
Key benefits
- Optimize the mobile layout without compromising the desktop design. A campaign that looks ideal on desktop — with a hero image, a detailed value proposition paragraph, and a decorative column layout — often needs to be significantly simplified on mobile to avoid overwhelming a small screen. Hide Elements on Mobile lets you strip the mobile view down to its essential components (headline, offer, form field, button) while leaving the full desktop design intact — both coexisting in the same campaign without any duplication.
- Prevent large images from dominating mobile screens. Images that add visual richness to a desktop popup frequently become space problems on mobile — consuming the majority of the visible area before the visitor even reaches the headline or CTA. Rather than resizing an image to a size that looks wrong on desktop, you can hide it on mobile entirely and let the text and form elements carry the mobile experience. The result is a cleaner, faster-scanning mobile campaign without any loss to the desktop experience.
- Full visibility and control through the Layers panel. Hidden elements are not lost — they remain in the campaign structure and are tracked in the Layers panel, where each element's visibility status per device is clearly indicated. This prevents the common confusion of "where did that element go?" when switching between mobile and desktop preview views, and makes it straightforward to re-enable a hidden element or check which elements are suppressed on which device.
How it works
In the OptiMonk campaign editor, click the mobile device icon in the toolbar to switch to mobile preview mode. Click on the element you want to hide on mobile — an image, a text block, a decorative column, or any other element. The element settings panel opens on the right.
In the element settings panel, scroll down to the Advanced section. Under Responsive settings, you will see two options: Hide Element on Desktop and Hide Element on Mobile. Click "Hide Element on Mobile" to toggle visibility off for mobile viewers. The element immediately disappears from the mobile preview — confirming the change — while remaining visible in the desktop view.
Switch between the mobile and desktop preview modes to confirm the element appears and disappears as intended. Open the Layers panel to see a full inventory of all elements in the campaign with their device visibility settings indicated — any element hidden on mobile or desktop is marked accordingly, giving you a clear overview of the campaign's responsive structure before publishing.
Frequently asked questions
What is Hide Elements on Mobile in OptiMonk?+
Hide Elements on Mobile is a per-element Responsive setting in OptiMonk's campaign editor that suppresses a specific element from appearing on mobile devices — without removing it from the campaign or affecting its visibility on desktop. It is found under the Advanced section of each element's settings panel. The same system also includes "Hide Element on Desktop" for the reverse scenario. Hidden elements remain accessible in the Layers panel and can be restored at any time.
What types of elements can I hide on mobile?+
The Hide on Mobile setting is available for any element in the campaign editor — images, text blocks, headings, decorative columns, spacers, buttons, video elements, floating images, and more. Any element that has an Advanced section in its settings panel supports the responsive visibility toggle. This covers virtually all elements you might want to suppress on mobile for layout or space reasons.
Does hiding an element on mobile delete it from the campaign?+
No. Hidden elements remain in the campaign structure and are stored alongside visible elements. They do not appear on the device view where they are hidden, but they are still present in the campaign file and can be found in the Layers panel, where their hidden status is indicated. You can re-enable a hidden element at any time by returning to its Advanced settings and toggling the hide option off.
Can I hide elements on desktop but keep them visible on mobile only?+
Yes. The Responsive settings include both "Hide Element on Mobile" and "Hide Element on Desktop" as independent options. You can use either or both on any element. For example, you might want to show a short, punchy headline on mobile and hide it on desktop in favor of a longer version — configuring one to be desktop-only and the other to be mobile-only achieves this within the same campaign.
How do I find elements I have hidden if I can not see them in the editor?+
Open the Layers panel in the editor — it lists all elements present in the campaign regardless of their current visibility setting. Elements hidden on mobile are indicated with a mobile icon and visibility status next to them in the panel, making it clear which elements are suppressed on which devices. You can click any element in the Layers panel to select it and access its settings, even if it is currently hidden in the active device preview.
