Point & Click Placement

Point & Click Placement

Determine where to place embedded content on your website with hassle-free zero code.

Point & Click Placement is the positioning tool in OptiMonk's Embedded Content workflow that lets you specify exactly where on your website an embedded campaign should appear — by clicking directly on that location on your live site, without writing or inserting any code. When you set up an embedded campaign and reach the placement step, OptiMonk opens your live website in a browser frame within the OptiMonk interface. You then click on the page element above or below which you want the embedded content to appear — a section header, a product description block, a CTA area, or any other location — and OptiMonk automatically inserts a placeholder at that position. The alternative to Point & Click Placement is inserting an HTML placeholder snippet manually into your site's source code, which requires developer access. Point & Click Placement eliminates this step entirely: a marketer can position an embedded campaign on any page of their site in seconds, with no code, no developer, and no deployment required.

Key benefits

  • Place embedded campaigns anywhere on your site without touching code. The ability to add a content block to a specific location on a web page has traditionally required a developer to modify the page's HTML. Point & Click Placement makes this a marketer task: you open your live site in the OptiMonk placement interface, click where you want the content to appear, and OptiMonk handles the technical placement automatically. From idea to positioned embedded campaign takes minutes rather than a development sprint.
  • Visual precision — you see exactly where the content will appear. Because you are clicking on your actual live site rather than describing a location in abstract code terms, there is no ambiguity about the placement. You see your page exactly as visitors see it, click the target location, and the placeholder appears in the preview confirming the position. What you click is where the campaign renders — no mental translation between a CSS selector and a visual position on the page.
  • Decouples embedded content deployment from development cycles. When placing embedded content requires developer involvement, campaign timelines are governed by sprint planning and code deployment schedules. Point & Click Placement removes this dependency entirely — marketing can add, move, or test embedded content placements on any supported page without submitting a development request, waiting for a deployment window, or coordinating with an engineering team.

How it works

Step 1
Design your embedded campaign in the OptiMonk editor

Create a new campaign and select Embedded as the message type. Design the campaign content — offer, form, product recommendation, countdown, or any combination of elements — using the standard drag-and-drop editor. When the design is complete, proceed to the placement step.

Step 2
Open the Point & Click Placement interface and click your target location

At the placement step, select "Point & Click Placement." Your live website opens in a browser frame within the OptiMonk interface. Navigate to the page where you want the embedded content to appear, if it is not already the correct page. Your page elements will become highlightable as you move the cursor over them. Click on the element above or below which you want the embedded content to appear — OptiMonk automatically inserts a placeholder at that position, and a confirmation shows the placement has been set.

Step 3
Save the placement and publish the campaign

Once the placement is confirmed, proceed through the remaining campaign settings — targeting conditions, trigger rules, and any A/B test configuration. Publish the campaign. OptiMonk will render the embedded content in the specified position on your live page for visitors who meet the campaign's targeting conditions, served from the placeholder that was set during the Point & Click step.

Frequently asked questions

What is Point & Click Placement in OptiMonk?+

Point & Click Placement is a zero-code positioning tool in OptiMonk's Embedded Content workflow that allows you to specify where an embedded campaign should appear on your website by clicking directly on that location on your live site. It opens your actual website in an interactive browser frame within OptiMonk, lets you click the target position, and automatically inserts the placement — replacing the need to manually add an HTML code snippet to your site's source code.

Do I need developer access to use Point & Click Placement?+

No. Point & Click Placement is specifically designed to eliminate the need for developer involvement in embedded content positioning. You click on the target location directly in the OptiMonk placement interface, and the technical placement is handled automatically. The only prerequisite is that the OptiMonk script is already installed on your site — once it is, any embedded campaign can be positioned by a marketer without any code changes.

What if I want to change the placement of an existing embedded campaign?+

You can update the placement of an existing embedded campaign by returning to the campaign's placement settings and using the Point & Click interface to select a new location. The placeholder at the original position is removed and a new one is set at the updated location. This change does not require a new code deployment — the update takes effect without modifying your site's source code.

Is Point & Click Placement available for all OptiMonk campaign types?+

Point & Click Placement is specific to Embedded Content campaigns — it is the mechanism for positioning an embedded block within an existing page layout. It is not applicable to popup, fullscreen, sticky bar, or side message campaigns, which use trigger and targeting rules to determine when and for whom they appear rather than a fixed position in the page layout.

What is the alternative if Point & Click Placement does not work on a specific page?+

For situations where Point & Click Placement cannot detect the correct position — for example, on pages with complex JavaScript-rendered layouts or certain CMS configurations — OptiMonk provides the manual code insertion option. This involves copying an HTML placeholder snippet from OptiMonk and pasting it into the page's source code at the desired position, which a developer can do without needing to modify the campaign itself. Both placement methods result in the same embedded campaign rendering at the specified location.
