Teaser

Teaser

Small, unobtrusive way to give a sneak peek into your message before or after your popup appears.

A Teaser is a small, persistent companion element that appears alongside an OptiMonk popup campaign — either before the popup fires or after it is closed — anchored to a corner of the browser window and following the visitor throughout their session. It serves two distinct functions depending on when it appears. When configured to show before the popup, it acts as a preview and recommendation — a small, branded widget that hints at the offer waiting inside, building curiosity before the main popup fires. When configured to show after the popup is dismissed, it acts as a persistent reminder — keeping the offer visible and accessible to visitors who closed the popup but have not yet left or converted. In both cases, the Teaser remains visible as the visitor browses from page to page, respecting the same targeting and display rules as the main campaign. The Teaser has its own dedicated page in the campaign editor, with configurable position, size, background, text, images, animations, and an Attention Seeker animation that can pulse or bounce periodically to recapture a distracted visitor's attention. Visitors who are not interested can dismiss it via its own close button without seeing the full popup.

Key benefits

  • Keep your offer visible after the popup is dismissed — without another popup. A visitor who closes a popup has communicated that they are not ready to engage right now — showing them the same popup again immediately would be intrusive. A Teaser solves this by leaving a small, unobtrusive reminder in the corner of the screen that keeps the offer accessible without demanding attention. When the visitor is ready — perhaps several pages later — they can click the Teaser to reopen the offer on their own terms.
  • Build anticipation before the popup appears. When the Teaser is set to appear before the popup fires — by default, six seconds after the page loads — it creates a brief moment of curiosity before the full campaign is shown. A visitor who notices a small branded widget in the corner before seeing the popup has been primed rather than surprised, which can reduce the reflexive dismiss rate. The Teaser's preview function is a way to warm the visitor to the forthcoming offer before it occupies the full screen.
  • Sticky follow-through across the entire browsing session. Unlike a popup that fires once and disappears, the Teaser persists across page loads — reappearing approximately 1.5 seconds after each new page finishes loading when shown before the popup, and nearly instantly when shown after the popup is closed. This means a visitor who browsed five pages without engaging with a campaign has seen the Teaser reminder on every one of those pages, giving the offer consistent visibility throughout the session without any additional triggering logic.

How it works

Step 1
Access the Teaser page in the campaign editor

Open your campaign in the OptiMonk editor and look at the page manager at the bottom of the screen. Select the Teaser page — it appears alongside your main campaign pages. If you do not see a Teaser page, click the three-dot menu in the page manager to enable it. The Teaser has its own editor workspace where you can customize it independently from the main popup page.

Step 2
Configure when the Teaser appears and its position

In the Teaser-specific settings on the right, choose when to show it: "Before the popup is displayed" (it appears first, then the popup fires after the configured delay), "After the popup is closed" (it appears when the visitor dismisses the main popup), or both. Set the delay in seconds before the Teaser appears. Choose its position on the screen — left or right corner — and which devices it should appear on: desktop only, mobile only, or both.

Step 3
Customize the Teaser design and add an Attention Seeker animation

Design the Teaser content using text, image, and floating image elements. Configure its size, background color or image, border, shadow, and padding in the Style and Advanced settings. To add movement that recaptures distracted visitors' attention, open the Animations section and select an Attention Seeker animation — a periodic pulse, bounce, or shake that fires at a configurable frequency while the Teaser is on screen. Click Save & Exit when the design is complete.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Teaser in OptiMonk?+

A Teaser is a small persistent widget that accompanies a popup campaign — appearing either before the popup fires (to preview and build anticipation) or after it is dismissed (to keep the offer visible as a reminder). It follows the visitor across page loads throughout their browsing session, respecting the same targeting rules as the main campaign. The Teaser has its own editor page with configurable position, design, animations, and display timing, and can be dismissed independently by the visitor via its own close button.

What is the difference between showing the Teaser before versus after the popup?+

When set to "Before the popup is displayed," the Teaser appears first — by default 6 seconds after page load — creating a preview moment before the main popup fires. This warms the visitor to the offer rather than presenting the full popup without warning. When set to "After the popup is closed," the Teaser appears after the visitor has dismissed the main popup — by default 2 seconds later — and remains visible on subsequent pages as a persistent reminder that the offer is still available. Both modes can be enabled simultaneously, creating a complete before-and-after presence.

Does the Teaser persist across page navigation?+

Yes. The Teaser is sticky — it reappears on each new page the visitor loads, following them through their entire browsing session. When shown before the popup, it reappears approximately 1.5 seconds after each new page finishes loading. When shown after the popup is closed, it reappears almost instantly on each new page. This persistence is subject to the same targeting conditions as the main campaign, so the Teaser only follows visitors who still qualify under the campaign's audience rules.

What is the Attention Seeker animation on the Teaser?+

The Attention Seeker is an optional animation effect available in the Teaser's Size and Spacing settings that causes the Teaser widget to periodically pulse, bounce, shake, or animate in another way to draw the visitor's attention back to it — for example, if they have been scrolling without noticing it. You can configure both the type of animation and how frequently it repeats. This is particularly useful for visitors who may have moved their focus away from the screen periphery after extended browsing.

Can a visitor close the Teaser without seeing the main popup?+

Yes. The Teaser includes its own close button (X) — described in OptiMonk's documentation as "annoyance-proof" — that lets the visitor dismiss the Teaser without triggering or reopening the main popup. This ensures the Teaser functions as a low-pressure reminder rather than an unavoidable gateway to the popup, maintaining a positive user experience for visitors who have explicitly indicated disinterest.
